About Sue Bates and Relationship Advise
Sue Bates M. Ed.
I’m TIRED!
I have been working with people for 34 years. Studies show that most married people go into therapy after about 6 years. Believe me, the marriage is a mess by then. I do love the challenge and the feeling of accomplishment after working with couples who are in really big trouble.
And I also see a GREAT need to help people before it gets to that point! The ones that are dating and trying to figure out what they want. The newlyweds that are in the first few years of marriage and want to learn to change things NOW and not just live a slow death in their relationship.
Intimate relationships are important to people. I see people playing around with dating and mating and so many people getting hurt. I like teaching people how to have long term relationships that are loving and fun. It can be done, I see it often.
So I am taking what I teach people in therapy and doing it in an education format. Sometimes we just need the right information and support to create a good relationship.
As you can probably tell, I offer practical, down to earth advise and information. I use the latest research and my 34 years experience working with hundreds of people. I don’t just use my personal experience, although I have learned a lot through the years:) Working with people for so long has given me the ability to work fast. I won’t waste your time, I want you to get the results you want. I am a licensed therapist in the State of Washington. I am NOT doing therapy through this site, I am offering consultations. I have a Masters degree in counseling, psychology from North Texas State University.
Relationship Training
I am trained in and work with Imago Relationship Therapy developed by Harvelle Hendrix. Oprah Winfrey has said that he is her favorite couple’s therapist. I also use John Gottman’s research from the University of Washington, He is internationaly known. I use a lot of Michelle Weiner-Davis, Dr Pat Love, Terry Real and whatever I think will help you at the time! During my career, I have worked in several settings, at the Swedish/Ballard Hospital in Seattle as a therapist in their eating disorder unit; taught eating disorders to masters level counseling students at Antioch University; Worked at a shelter for battered women and children; and at a mental health center in Denver working with children. I also worked in public schools as a therapist in a special education classroom.
I love my work. I teach with much humor and a lot of practicality.
